High Security IoT Domotic System for Smart Buildings

The project “Sistema Domotico IoT Integrato ad elevata Sicurezza Informatica per Smart Building” (POR FESR 2014-2020, Asse 3, Azione 1.1.4) involves both academic and industrial partners. The expertise of the different academic partners ranges from cognitive ergonomics, computer science, cyber-security while the industrial partners are operating in several specific sectors such as lighting, automation, and environmental sensors (e.g. gas-detectors, falls-detection 3D cameras).
The main objective of the project is examining the introduction of ambient assisted living tools in different real-world scenarios. The considered end-users will be mainly fragile people (older and disabled individuals), professional caregivers (several types), but also the operators of a retail store. Another aim is to overcome communicational gaps between devices and to support efficient data exchange (i.e. full interoperability) in these smart environments through the definition of standard protocols. The project will target three diverse real-world contexts with peculiar characteristics: nursing home, a social-housing/co- housing, and a retail store.
The considered end-users will be different across scenarios therefore the selection and implementation of the most suitable smart technologies and the design of the user-interfaces will vary in order to meet the needs and desiderata of the stakeholders (i.e. residents, operators, workers, management, and healthcare professionals).
With these goals, co-design activities (e.g. focus group) will be carried out involving the final-users and moreover laboratory test will be performed in order to test accessibility and usability of the identified smart devices and the control interfaces that will be realized. Overall, the technologies and interfaces will be realized considering the principles of the Universal Design. Following the laboratory tests the devices will be implemented in the target scenarios giving the opportunity to gather information, directly from the end-users, regarding the systems and interfaces perceived accessibility, their usability, security (e.g. reduction in falls). Furthermore, information regarding users’ experience, acceptance, and general well-being through will be collected through questionnaires and interviews.
